Optional Rules


The Optional Rules section is for those of you who wish to expand your campaigns with new rules and special game mechanics not supported in ZODIAC's core rules, such as the Skill System or Materia. As the ZODIAC system expands and begins to support more game systems, they will be posted here in the Optional Rules, as well as other ideas that don't quite fit into the core game system.

Expanded Combat Rules
Various modules for map combat, detailed critical hits, and other material designed to make combat more realistic.

Limit Break System
Rules for using powerful attacks triggered by the character's rage. Written by Scott Wilson.

Magicite System
Note: The current version of Magicite is compatible only with Second Edition rules.

Materia System
Rules for using the Materia system from Final Fantasy VII.

Purchasing Skills and Techs
A simple set of rules for acquiring skills and Techs by training and purchasing them with gold, rather than learning them automatically as one gains levels.

Recovery Food Items
A list of over 30 different food items for HP and MP recovery, rather than Potions and Ethers. Inspired by Earthbound.

Skill System
The Optional Skill System provides rules for learning, using, and improving Skills such as Alchemy, Disguise, and Weaponsmithing.
