Magicite System



Magicite is a stone filled with the powers of a magical beast. Magicite can 'teach' its user how to wield many different types of Magic. The Magicite System is, basically, a system to allow the use of Magicite from Final Fantasy 6. This system includes the rules to the Magicite System, as well as a Magicite Creation System and with Premade Magicite.

Character Creation
Let's start from the beginning, Character Creation. Characters must choose one of the following configurations:

  • Access to one set of Techs.
  • Access to Blue Magic.
  • Pure magic use.
In addition, all characters choose to specialize in one type of Magic- either Black, White, Red, or Call Magic. Characters learn spells from their specialty school at normal speed, and all other magic at half speed. Pure magic users learn all spells at an equal rate.
NOTE: Only a character who specializes in Call Magic can learn Call spells.

Learning Spells

Spells are learned by equipping a certain Magicite crystal. Only one may be equipped at a time. To learn a spell, you must earn 100 Ability Points (ABP) for a spell contained in the Magicite a character has equipped. Ability Points (ABP) are earned after victory in battle. Each character earns, in addition to his/her Experience Points, ABP equal to (Total Monster Levels / 5). All battles will reward at least 1 ABP. So, if you got into a fight with 4 Monsters of Level 1, you will earn 1 ABP.
Every spell has an ABP Multiplier. Lower level spells are easier to learn, and thus have a higher multiplier. Higher level spells have a low multiplier. After a battle, EACH spell earns an amount of ABP equal to the amount rewarded times its multiplier. Any spells that do not belong to the character's specialty school then have the ABP rewarded cut in half. If you are a pure magic user, you have no penalty to learning any spell.

Example: Merlin the Mage is equipped with a Pandemonium Magicite crystal. After a battle, he gains 2 ABP. Pandemonium contains four spells: Pandemonium, a summon spell, and Aero 1, 2, and 3, white spells. Merlin specializes in Black magic, so he can't learn Pandemonium. The three Aero spells have multipliers of x10, x6, and x4. He doesn't have any ABP accumulated so far. Because he's a Black specialist, the ABP he earns for White spells is cut in half. After the battle, Aero 1 has 10 ABP, Aero 2 has 6 ABP, and Aero 3 has 4 ABP.

NOTE: Spells HAVE to be fully learned to be able to use it. In other words, the spell cannot be cast until it has 100 ABP. Once a spell is learned, it can be cast at any time, even after the Magicite is unequipped. If you are not eligible to learn a certain Spell from the Magicite because you have reached your maximum number of spells, or because your experience level is insufficient, then you DO NOT gain ABP in that particular spell until you are eligible to. If you already have ABP accumulated for a certain spell, but you reach your maximum number of spells before learning that spell, you keep the ABP you have earned, but will earn no more towards that particular spell until a spell slot opens up.

Magicite Creation (For GMs Only)

  1. Choose a name for the magical beast that is held within the Magicite. Give it a description. Does it have an affinity to a particular element, such as Fire (Ifrit) or Ice (Shiva)? Give it a little history as well to fit it smoothly into the campaign.
  2. Create an effect for the beast's Summon spell. Use the core ZODIAC summon spells as a guide.
  3. Decide what spells the Magicite crystal has to offer. A Magicite crystal can only contain up to four Black or White spells and one Summon spell, for a total of no more than five spells. ABP multipliers are determined by the following table:

NOTE: All Summon spells have a multiplier equal to half the given value for a spell of their level. Black spells that are named as an element followed by a number are an "Elemental" spell of that level.
