What is 'The Duncan Rand One Act Play Festival '?
Is a festival of one act plays held at the Medway Little Theatre in July and named after its originator , Duncan Rand. It is aimed at local adult and youth groups to produce productions compete in. Three plays are performed each evening and a guest adjudicator will give their opinion at the very end. The top scoring three plays will then be performed again on the awards night, when the winner will be announced along with the recipients of the other awards.
What is 'The Kent Drama Association'?
The KDA helps with training for local amateur drama groups in the form of workshops. It also runs a full-length play festival from February to May. This is for local societies to enter, with a professional adjudicating them, giving feedback and culminating in an awards evening in June where the winners in various categories are announced, including the best three plays overall.

Move In/Out
It may seem like we are literally ‘moving in’ to the theatre when the scenery laden lorry turns up outside at 9am, but the term merely refers to the time we have hired the venue from and begin the process of setting up, erecting scenery and rigging lights.
Where do you Rehearse?
We rehearse at Madginford Hall on Mondays and Thursdays from 8-10pm. Where productions include children their rehearsing may finish earlier. For our main productions their may be extra rehearsals on Sundays nearing opening night at different locations.
Scripts Down
A designated time will be given by the director as to when actors should ‘put their script down’ ie know their words – or at least know them well enough that the services of the prompt suffice. When a director chooses to put this date varies as the speed people learn their lines at varies. One actor may know all their lines prior to the first rehearsal another by the after show party. The general aim would about a third of the way into rehearsals.
Touring Production
Our September production we take out around the local village halls, performing at a different venue each night. This requires a stalwart backstage crew to help move the scenery and equipment into the venue and erect it in the hour and a half available before.
