The essencial task of making sure the production runs as smoothly and seamlessly as possible by moving any scenery around as swiftly as can be during the run and helping get it to and erect at the venue in the first place.
As many strong, able-bodied people as possible are required to complete this.

First thing on the Sunday morning we move into the theatre all hands are required to help transport all the scenery firstly, from our scenery store to the lorry and secondly from the lorry into the theatre. Once in the theatre it needs to be erected, depending on the complexity of the set this can often take all day, so all assistance is greatly received. Conversely for our touring productions it is necessary to move in and erect all the scenery with an hour and a half, which we do manage, but again it is reliant on a team of strong hard working individuals to get it done.
For a musical the scenery shifting does not end there, it is only just beginning. As there are numerous scenes which need to be depicted, various items of scenery will need to be moved on and off stage in quick succession. Backdrops may have to be flown in and out, which requires strong people up in the flies pulling on ropes.
Last of all, at the end of the production, it needs to be all taken down again and carted back to the scenery store.
