The artistry of theatre is one of illusion and how an actor looks plays an integral part in creating and maintaining that. If you have ever been to see a period drama where the costumes are from any variety of periods accept the one being portrayed you will know how important realistic and appropriate costume is to creating the right atmosphere.

The degree of work involved for any production can vary extremely. A modern day setting may not require any special assistance as the actor can provide appropriate clothes and make-up. Other productions, particularly ones with a period setting and larger cast, can require a team of people to make and correlate costume. There is a large costume store, containing all those outfits used in previous productions but these are unfortunately not comprehensively catalogued in order to find what you want when you want it. There is always a need for sewing skills, when costumes have to be made or adapted.
