The Hazlitt Theatre

Originally built as a Corn Exchange in 1835 the Hazlitt Theatre was opened in 1955. The building is at present above a parade of small shops called Market Buildings with the theatre entrance in Earl Street. The Hazlitt Theatre has 353 seats, a proscenium arch stage and a multi purpose hall called the Exchange. The theatre has a varied programme including professional drama, and local theatre groups, musicals and concerts. The Exchange has many events including music, dancing and conferences.
The theatre is named after William Hazlitt the essayist, journalist and critic born in Maidstone in 1778 in a house in Rose Yard. His father Rev. William Hazlitt was for ten years the minister at the Market Street Chapel, now the Unitarian Church.

Medway Little Theatre

The Medway Little Theatre is a 108 seat theatre, which was converted to its current usage from a warehouse in 1958. The MLT has its own theatre company, of the same name which organises a One Act Play competition in July, named after its founder, Duncan Rand, for local adult and youth groups to compete in. Three plays are performed each evening and a guest adjudicator will give their opinion at the very end. The top scoring three plays will then be performed again on the awards night, when the winner will be announced along with the recipients of the other awards. |

The Sinden Theatre is a 231 seat theatre named after its patron, Sir Donald Sinden. It is part of Homewood School, situated within its grounds and being the centre for the school's own productions. |
